When Steve Jobs launched the iPhone, the mobile phone industry has changed radically and forever. It was a turning point for many companies working in the industry.
For some companies such as Palm and Motorola (NYSE:MMI), the disaster began at the first moment when iPhone was released. For others, such as Nokia (NYSE:NOK), the decrease in market share took longer.
BlackBerry fared quite well for a good time, but at some point on, RIM (NASDAQ:RIMM) could not keep up with Apple and companies who have chosen Google Android.
The increase came from sales of cheap phones outside the States of the Americas.
Meanwhile, the Taiwanese company HTC fared better. It bet on Google Android quite early, which helped the mobile phone manufacturer to reach a bigger market share than RIM.
The bet on Google Android was not a guarantee of success for HTC. Samsung was the big winner of the Android OS, gaining an increasing market share.
