Thrashing new releases by R&B artist Rihanna and Kid Rock, Scottish singer Susan Boyle’s new album “The Gift” stayed on the top of the billboard’s top 200 album charts for yet another week.
Sales of the album put on the market by Britain’s Got Talent sensation went up by 5 percent in the second week of topping the charts, with 335,000 copies, reported Nielsen SoundScan. The America’s Got Talent counterpart, Jackie Evancho, secured second best position with her “O Holy Night” Christmas album, which sold 239,000 copies.
American pop star Rihanna, with “Loud” took no.3, with 207,000. Loud is Rihanna’s fifth top 10 song in the chart. Her single “Only Girl” again took no.1 spot on the billboard’s Hot 100 Chart.
Becoming the Hugest Christmas themed hits since January 1993, Evancho and Boyle’s albums became the 2 out of three holiday albums in top 10.
Each of the best nine albums sold more than 100,000 copies.
With 191,000 sold copies, Josh Groban’s “Illumination” became the 4th best album, while with 189,000 copies sold, Kid Rock’s “Born Free” gained No. 5, including 23,000 downloads.
Becoming Rascal Flatts’ seventh album in the top 10, “Nothing Like This” gained No. 6 spot with selling over 165,000 copies. In the meantime, Keith Urban’s “Get Closer” became No. 7 with 162,000 sold copies.
Nelly’s “5.0” sits on the 8th top 10 debut of the week grabbing 10th position with 63,000 copies sold.
Dropping seven spots to no. 9 on its 4th week, Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now” joined Boyle with being the only holdovers left in the top 10.
In the Billboard digital music chart, Glee’s cover of Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You” which featured actress Gwyneth Paltrow from the show, took No.1 position with 192,000 copies sold. Forget You became Paltrow’s second No. 1 on a billboard music chart after her duet with Huey Lewis “Cruisin’,” which gained the top position in adult contemporary radio chart in the year 2000.
With 191,000 downloads in the past week (94 percent increase), Green’s real version of “Forget You” known as “F**k You” gained No. 2 spot by climbing up 10 spots.
Becoming the 7th top song with 140,000 downloads; Glee’s song “singing in the rain/umbrella” too, made the top 10.
Ending on November 21st, total sold albums in the chart week were 8.12 million units, which beat the sales in the same week of 2009 by an increase of 2 percent.
So far, total album sales made this year are at 251.78 million, 13 percent less if compared the same period last year. With 22.47 million, digital tracks sales for the week beat the comparable week of 2009 by 19 percent.
