Samsung Galaxy S5 (GS5) is now available at Verizon for pre-order. Starting this Friday, everyone is being invited to place their orders on the Verizon’s official website. This latest Samsung smartphone has been available for pre-order for subscribers of AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile about a month ago. So far, Verizon is selling Samsung’s 2014 flagship device on a 16GB model only.
The original price of Samsung Galaxy 5 at Verizon is $250, along with the standard two-year contract. However, the company is now offering a $50 mail-in rebate card to all its subscribers, thus reducing its price to $199.99 only. Without a contract, the coveted device costs $599.99 or a monthly payment of $25.55 with Verizon Edge. The first batch of the new devices will be shipped starting Friday, April 11, the official release date of GS5.
Verizon is also offering a “Buy One, Get One Free” (BOGO) promo for customers who pre-order and will sign-up on the additional 2-year contract. Those who will agree can choose a second GS5, Samsung Ativ SE, or an HTC One (M8) unit with no extra cost. Being the last carrier to offer pre-orders, many analysts believe that this strategy by Verizon can create a stiffer competition.
Samsung officially announced the coming of GS5 during the Mobile World Congress last February. Currently available in Charcoal Black and Shimmery White, Galaxy S5 sports a 5.1-inch FHD Super AMOLED display that has adaptive features including automatic optimization of color range and display sharpness, and comes along with a built-in fingerprint sensor to unlock the device.
The unit also has 16-MP rear-facing camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage and supports a 128 GB microSD card, is powered by a Snapdragon 801 processor, and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat. In addition, Galaxy S5 included an upgraded S Health app that allows users to monitor fitness, nutrition, and wellness. This comes along with a built-in heart rate sensor.
