The risk of heart attack in American women is common than many other health issues. In America a woman has heart attack every minute. While more women die of heart disease than any four diseases combined. These diseases include all types of cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, Alzheimer and accidents.
America’s increasing obesity issue is the main reason for heart diseases. This is raising the death rate of women aged between 35 and 54.
The American Heart Association has dedicated the month of February to spreading awareness of heart disease and taking precautions to avoid it. The precautionary measures start by knowing your numbers and knowing what puts you at risk. The second step is to develop a healthy diet. Next a person should know the warning signs and incase there are symptoms of a heart attack then 911 should be called immediately.
These are the tips Osypa Shalay wishes that she had followed. Her two grown up sons are always a priority. On 18th January, one son had a birthday while the other was having surgery. She woke up early that day with the symptoms of a heart attack but dismissed them as acid reflux.
Shalay 69, took a reflux pill and two aspirin and went to work. She dismissed the idea of a heart attack as there was no family history for it and she had a complete checkup six months ago which showed no issues.
After a restless night Shalay woke with pain in her back and neck. She contacted her doctor who prescribed a muscle relaxant and told to visit if the issue continued. As the situation got worse, Shalay visited the doctor next morning who after doing an electrocardiogram diagnosed a heart attack.
Now Shalay has changed her lifestyle. She has stopped taking salt in her meals. She is taking blood thinning and cholesterol medication and now works from home to reduce stress.
