Muammar Gadhafi’s Wife Criticizes NATO for Her Son’s Death

Sofia Gadhafi, wife of Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi, Friday criticized the air strikes that killed her son Saif al-Arab and accused NATO forces of “war crimes”.

“I was not there. But I would have liked to be, because I could die with him”, she told CNN.

“My son has never missed the evening prayer. He was targeted by missiles and bombings began every night during the evening prayer”, added the woman, who rarely appears in the press.

NATO-led coalition “is looking for excuses to kill Muammar”, she accused, suggesting that NATO does violate the UN mandate that authorizes intervention only to protect civilians. “But what did he do to deserve this?” She asked.

Asked if she considers that the bombing was targeted personally, she replied: “My children are civilians and they were targeted”.

“NATO committed war crimes”, she accused. “They killed my son, they kill the Libyan people”.

“What can I expect from life now? All I want is the truth to emerge. With the will of Allah, we will be victorious. We will live or die with the Libyan people, and when the time comes to give an account, history will judge us”, said Sofia Gadhafi.

According to authorities in Tripoli, Saif Al-Arab and three grandchildren of Libyan leader, Saif (2 years old), Carthage (2 years old) and Mastoura (4 months old), as well as friends and neighbors were killed in a NATO raid on the Libyan capital on April 30.

The head of the Government of Italy, Silvio Berlusconi, said Wednesday that he is not dead and it is just “propaganda” of the Libyan regime.
