Motorola launches new premium smartphones

Motorola Droid RazrMotorola Mobility, a division of Google, unveiled in New York the premium line of smartphones for the end of the year, which includes three Razr models with screens between 4.3 inches and 4.7 inches. The top model is equipped with a high capacity battery for better autonomy in 4G LTE networks.

Droid Razr M model has a 4.3-inch screen surrounded by a very thin frame and it comes with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB internal storage. The model has a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and an 8 megapixel camera. The smartphone is available currently only in the Verizon offer, the largest U.S. operator, for a price starting at $99 with a two-year contract.

Motorola Mobility was acquired this summer by Google for $12.5 billion and the search engine giant has now a huge portfolio of patented technologies. Motorola chose Android operating system, developed by Google, since its launch, and the new Razr line is equipped with the latest version of the platform, Android 4.1 “Jelly Bean”.

“We want to make phones that propel Android ecosystem. Market share is out of the question,” said general manager of Motorola Mobility, Dennis Woodside, in an interview with Bloomberg. Beside Razr M, Motorola has unveiled Droid Razr HD and Droid Razr Maxx HD with 4.7-inch HD screens and higher battery capacity than those found in other top models available in the market.

The flagship model, Droid Razr Maxx HD comes with a 4.7-inch screen with 1280 x 720 resolution, dual-core processor at 1.5 GHz, 32 GB internal storage, 8 megapixel camera and an impressive 3,300 mAh battery.

Nokia also launched Wednesday a new generation of Lumia smartphones equipped with Windows Phone 8. The Finnish company and Microsoft hope to return to power in the mobile device market.
