L’Wren Scott, Mick Jagger’s long-time girlfriend, has committed suicide, according to New York City Medical Examiner’s office on Wednesday. Based on the autopsy, the 49-year old stylist and former fashion designer ended her life by hanging herself. No further details were announced, but earlier reports say that there was no suicide letter found and there was no foul play suspected.
“I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way. We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.” Mick Jagger wrote on his official website, which was also posted on his official Facebook page. Jagger and Scott have been romantically involved since 2001; they have no children together.
The Rolling Stones lead singer received tons of condolences from fans and fellow celebrities. The band decided to postpone their 14 ON FIRE concert tour in New Zealand and Australia, which was supposed to start last Wednesday. The band members have expressed their sorrow and fans were told to hold on to their tickets while waiting for further announcement.
Scott, who had styled famous Hollywood celebrities including Sarah Jessica, Parker Nicole Kidman, and the late Elizabeth Taylor, was found dead by her assistant on Monday at around 10 a.m. in her apartment in Chelsea. Authorities said that the former model sent a text message to her assistant, around one hour and a half before she was found kneeling and lifeless. A scarf was seen around her neck, which was tied to the door knob.
LS Fashion Ltd., a company in London established by Scott is reportedly in heavy debt. In its latest UK filing, the company owes its creditors £4.6 million (around $7.6 million), as of 31 December 2012. Last month, Scott was supposed to have a show at London Fashion Week, but she cancelled it saying that the company is not ready for the show. Scott started her modeling career at the age of 17.
