Bloomberg has recently launched the first daily top of the 20 richest people in the world. The list is calculated based on changes in the stock market, economic indicators and information from news agencies. Net wealth of every billionaire is updated every working day and is expressed in US dollars.
Carlos Slim, Mexican tycoon who controls America Movil telecommunication industry tops the list. Slim’s wealth, 72 years old, fell by 478.4 million dollars in just one day on March 02, to 68.5 billion dollars. But billionaire wealth increased by 11% since the beginning of the year.
American moguls Bill Gates and Warren Buffett occupied second and third place, respectively, in the charts. Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, has a fortune of 62.4 billion dollars, which fell on March 2 by 102,1 million dollars, but from the beginning of the year has increased by 11%. Buffett’s wealth, President of Berkshire-Hathaway fell on March 02 by 336.9 million dollars, reaching $43.8 billion.
Brazilian Eike Batista, who is tenth on the list of richest people still craves at first place in the league, having promised a year ago that he will become the richest man in the world by 2015. The total wealth of 20 richest people on earth is 676.8 billion dollars. Of these, nine are American, three as part of the family of Sam Walton, founder of Wall-Mart Stores.
Swede Ingvar Kamprad is the richest European, according to the index. He ranks fourth worldwide, with a net worth of 42.5 billion dollars. Kamprad, 85, controls the IKEA Group, the largest furniture retailer in the world.
The top made by Bloomberg includes the richest person in Spain, Amancio Ortega, owner of Inditex, with a fortune of 38.8 billion dollars. Until now, Forbes was the place where readers were looking for the yearly top of the wealthiest people in the world. The new daily list of rich people is called Bloomberg Billionaire Index and it’s measured each day at 5:30 PM.
