American singer La Toya Jackson said in her new memoir, entitled “Starting Over”, released Tuesday in the U.S., that her ex-husband, music producer Jack Gordon, used to lock her in a closet when she would not listen to his orders.
The 55-year-old singer said, however, that her marriage to Jack Gordon, who was her manager until his death in 2005, was a “forced one” and her ex-husband wanted to isolate her from friends and family, informs femalefirst.co.uk.
LaToya Jackson, says that Jack Gordon “forced her” to marry him in 1989 and since then systematically intimidated her during their marriage, always trying to control her and threatening her that he will force her to break ties with friends and family.
If LaToya, sister of Michael Jackson, dared to break the “orders” from her husband, he locked her in a closet and beat her.
“I never married Jack Gordon. He married me. He forced me to do it. He locked me in the closet if I was no behaving normally and didn’t smile, or if I showed my bruises to anyone, he beat me again. I could not read magazines and newspapers or have friends. I could not call anyone”, said LaToya Jackson.
“I knew him when my father brought him to accompany me during my first tour in Japan. But soon, Gordon took my passport. He said that I would lose it. My father have argued with him many times afterwards”, added the singer.
LaToya, who has previously revealed that Jack Gordon threatened her that he would kill some of the members of his family and beat her one night until she passed out, considers that she was not accustomed to this kind experiences; as a child and teenager she grew up in an environment where she felt protected.
“I grew up as a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses group. I went from door to door to help people. That was all I knew. I grew up without knowing anything about the people on the streets. I have never taken drugs. I never met an artist who was in prison. I’ve never been around people who beat other people”, said American artist in an interview with the New York Post.
The memoir “Starting Over” is released Tuesday, the United States, together with an EP with the same title. The book brings together the opinions, thoughts and feelings of the artist about the death of her brother Michael Jackson. The singer said that she will launch a full studio album in the second half of this year.
