Julian Assange’s Swedish lawyer believes that the founder of Wikileaks will be extradited to Sweden

WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, will probably be extradited to Sweden from United Kingdom, to stand trial for rape and sexual assault, said Tuesday his lawyer.

“I hope that everything will go as Julian (Assange) wants, but I think chances to reverse things are rather weak”, said lawyer Bjorn Hurtig for the Swedish public radio, SR.

“I think there is a high risk for him to be sent here”, he added.

Swedish lawyer made the statements shortly before the two day hearing of Julian Assange by the High Court in London, where he appealed against extradition, validated in the first instance.

According to Hurtig, the new team of British lawyers will focus more on form issues than criticising the Swedish judicial system and the two women who filed charges against the Australian.

“I think that they will challenge the European arrest warrant on a legal basis”, he said.

“There is a possibility (as justice) to change the decision (of extradition), but I think chances are pretty weak”, continued the lawyer.

After two days of hearings, the High Court decision is expected at a later date.

Assange always denied allegations of sexual assault and rape, from two Swedish women for acts that occurred in August 2010 in Sweden.

Arrested in December in the UK under a European warrant issued by the Public Prosecutor in Sweden, he was released several days later and has been since under house arrest at a mansion in an England rural area.

His lawyers have indicated on several occasions that they are prepared to fight a long legal battle against Assange’s extradition to Sweden, all the way to the UK Supreme Court.
