iPhone 5 launched today in San Francisco

iPhone 5 launchApple has unveiled the iPhone 5 on Wednesday, the sixth generation of the smartphone launched by the company in 2007. The presentation Wednesday by Apple chief executive of marketing, Phil Schiller, confirms much of the rumors about the new iPhone.

iPhone 5 new features:

4-inch screen with a pixel density similar to that of the iPhone 4S, thanks to the 1136×640 resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio;

Thickness: 7.6 mm thick, 18% thinner than iPhone 4S;

Weight: 112 grams, 20% less than the iPhone 4S;

Touchscreen sensors integrated in the display, the display is 30% thinner;

Wireless: connection speed is higher;

iPhone 5 is almost two times more powerful than its predecessor, 4S;

Battery provides 8 hours of talk time on 3G networks or 8 hours of web browsing on 4G LTE networks, 10 hours of WiFi browsing, 10 hours of video playback, 40 hours of music or 225 hours of standby;

Camera has 8 megapixels and technology that allows higher picture quality in low-light conditions;

iPhone 5 takes pictures 40% faster than the iPhone 4S and the user can choose now the panoramic mode, capturing images up to 28 megapixel;

iPhone 5 can record video in full HD 1080p resolution, with better image stabilization and the user can take pictures while filmin;

Secondary camera at the front of the phone, designed for videochat, can shoot in 720p resolution;

iPhone 5 has three microphones;

It is compatible with the high-speed 4G LTE networks in North America, Asia, Australia and Europe;

iPhone 5 has a casing made entirely of glass and aluminum. The buttons are found in the same positions as the previous model;

The connector used to attach a USB cable and other compatible devices is completely new. Apple has abandoned the traditional 30-pin connector used for almost 10 years, opting for a more narrow, 8-pin cable, and the company will provide an adapter to use for gadgets and devices equipped with the old connector.

Applications developed for previous models, with smaller screen will not appear distorted, but with black bars in areas outside the image. IPhone 5 is equipped with the operating system iOS 6, which brings many improvements over the previous version.

IPhone 5 price starts in the U.S. at $199 for the version with 16 GB storage, $299 for 32GB model, and $399 for the 64GB version.

IPhone 5 can be preordered starting Friday, September 14, and by the end of the year will be available in 100 countries, for 240 telecom operators.

iPhone 5 will be distributed starting September 21 in the U.S., Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
