Serial version of the Hyundai Veloster concept will be unveiled in January at the Detroit Motor Show. The model will have a series of innovations for compact coupe segment.
Hyundai named the serial version of Veloster as “coupe utility”, thus highlighting original elements, such as the opening of doors, unique and practical.
The prototype was presented at the Seoul Motor Show in 2007, and seemed to be buried because too futuristic design for nowadays. However, public’s reactions were those that were rescued from obscurity the Veloster concept, the auto house deciding putting it into production.
Regarding the serial version, the coupe will keep many details found in the concept, starting from the shape of the bonnet, the front pillar black, from the design of optical blocks, to the type of body with 2+1 doors.
So, the car will look like a hatchback in three-door, with two elongated doors in front and two smaller doors to facilitate access to rear seats. Inside, the center console is dominated by a 7-inch touch screen.
From a technical standpoint, Veloster was born on a modified Kia Cee’d platform and the range of engines will include a direct injection gasoline engine of 1.6 liters, developing 140 hp and one turbo of 208 hp. With this new model will also debut the dual-clutch transmission with six gears of the Korean auto house, which will reduce consumption by 5% compared to the manual transmission.
Although nothing is officially known about prices, Hyundai Veloster could have a starting price of 20,000 euros, the launch being scheduled for summer 2011.
