Grapes, especially red, contain resveratrol – an antioxidant that has a much stronger effect than some vitamins or the beta-carotene in strengthening the body and fighting diseases. Resveratrol is one of the most powerful known antioxidants. According to statistics, resveratrol is four to five times stronger than beta-carotene, 50 times stronger than Vitamin E and 20 times stronger than Vitamin C.
Resveratrol is found, among others, in red wine, blueberries and blackberries.
The concentration of resveratrol is not the same for different grape variety. Resveratrol content varies depending on where the grapes were grown – cold-climate zone or warm-climate area, and the use of pesticides – the organic fruit contains more resveratrol. Fruit exposure to a heat source leads to a drastic reduction in resveratrol content.
Also not recommended is the removal of the shell skin which contains the highest amount of resveratrol.
As a glass of red wine per day is an ideal source of resveratrol, those who don’t drink this beverage, can successfully replace a glass of wine with grape juice.
On the other hand, to benefit from the effect of resveratrol, consumption of foods rich in this antioxidant is not enough. Supplements based on Resveratrol are indicated for both children and adults, as they have multiple therapeutic indications.
