American billionaire of Hungarian origin George Soros announced yesterday, on the day he turned 82, that he is engaged and will marry his girlfriend, Tamiko Bolton. George Soros and Tamiko Bolton, who met in the spring of 2008, have announced their engagement officially during a holiday party held at the residence that the famous businessman owns in the Southampton, New York, attended by a few close friends and members of the two families, informs Reuters.
Soros asked to marry his lover, aged 40 years, a few weeks ago during a vacation spent in the Hamptons, an area frequented by wealthy New Yorkers. Tamiko Bolton, who founded an online company specializing in trade of dietary supplements, is currently running a web-based yoga center. She has obtained a master degree in business from the Miami University. The engagement ring that the American billionaire gave to his girlfriend is a diamond encased in a platinum frame on a gold band. This will be the third marriage for George Soros and the second for Bolton, who was married for a short period in 1990. George Soros has five children from previous marriages.
Last year, Adriana Ferreyra, a former girlfriend of the famous billionaire, opened a case against him in a Manhattan court, where she accused her former partner that has not complied with a promise to buy her an apartment. George Soros has filed a motion in court seeking the suspension of the lawsuit initiated by the former Brazilian soap opera star.
Also in 2011, George Soros, who is actively contributing to various liberal political causes and is often invited to comment on economic issues of global concern, has transformed the investment fund which he headed in a private company that deals exclusively with his family investment. At the same time, the famous American investor has ceased to manage other investors’ money.
George Soros became rich and famous in 1992, following a historic transaction, which made him a profit of one billion eight hundred million dollars betting on the devaluation of sterling pound. Later, the British authorities were forced to withdraw their currency from the exchange mechanism of the European Union.
In 1993, George Soros founded the Open Society Foundation, also called the Soros Foundation. According to Forbes magazine, his fortune was in March 2012 estimated at over $20 billion.
