Birmingham riotsBirmingham police released on Saturday a series of videos recorded the during street riots in early August, showing protesters while preparing to open fire on unarmed police officers and a helicopter flying over the area.

“There were 11 shots fired on unarmed police” police said in a statement from Birmingham, who adds that “police were attacked with Molotov cocktails”.

Images recorded by a surveillance camera shows a group of 30-40 protesters, wearing masks and dressed in black, running down the street and smashing shops, on the night of August 9. Some of them were taped while shooting with a gun on police and helicopter.

Police decided to publish the recordings to determine the public to provide information about offenders.

“The investigation aims at counts of attempted murder and arson and I would be happy if it’s and not about crime”, said Chris Sims, representing the police in Birmingham, a city affected by street riots during the period of August 6 to 10, the worst in the UK over the past 30 years.

The violence ended up with five victims, three of them lost their lives in Birmingham. All three were Muslims of Asian origin and were killed while trying to maintain order in their neighborhood. In the investigation of the killing of the three people, eight people were arrested and four have been indicted already.
