Apple officially announced this Wednesday the return of iPad 4, which features a 9.7-inch Retina Display and the faster dual-core A6X processor. According to its press release, the device will replace the mid-range iPad 2 at the same price of $399 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model. The 4G version starts at $529, which is the same as the starting price of iPad Mini with Retina Display.
This is after Apple discontinued the iPad 4 on October 22, 2013 as it launched iPad Air, which was priced at $499. iPad 4 was introduced in October 2012 and was released one month later. Among its key features is a 5MP iSight camera, 1.2-megapixel FaceTime HD camera, and Lightning port. The iPad 4 is available in black or white, and now is being sold online and in Apple retail stores as well.
“Now for $399 customers can get iPad with a stunning 9.7-inch Retina Display, fast A6X chip, and 5MP iSight camera, offering a dramatic upgrade in power, performance and value compared to the iPad 2 it replaces,” Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said.
“The iPad line sets the gold-standard in mobile computing and all iPads have access to the largest and best ecosystem of more than 500,000 iPad optimized apps from the App Store.” Schiller added, with the discontinued iPad 2 being made cheaper in 2012 after it was launched in 2011.
Meanwhile, Apple released an 8GB iPhone 5C, but only in Australia, China and Europe. There was no report if it will be available in the US sometime soon. According to the Australian Apple site, the device costs AUS $679, while the 16GB version costs AUS$739. The Chinese people can buy the 8GB version for 4088 yuan (around $723). In Europe, the 8GB model is priced at 429 pounds (around $712) and the 16GB version costs 469 pounds (around $778).
