At a factory manufacturing touch screens for Apple Chinese workers have urged the US firm to address their issues as chemical poisoning can affect their health.
Hexyl hydride was being used by a factory in east China between May 2008 to August 2009, but the practice was halted when it was found that it was making workers sick.
The letter sent to Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, clearly mentioned that the chemical was an invisible killer. The letter also mentioned that when hexyl hydride was being used, the monthly profit of the Apple and Wintek, the company in China, increased a lot but at the cost of lives and health of the workers.
The chemical was used to increase the production speed of touch screens for Apple products as it had the quality of evaporating faster than alcohol. Apple has been criticized regarding the work conditions of China based suppliers specially after announcing huge profits in January.
In a recent report from Apple it was mentioned that poisoning did exist and 137 workers were hospitalized but all of them got recovered.
The owners of Wintek plant have not given enough compensation to those who got affected and neither any assurance was given for workers who may suffer or how their medical bills will be adjusted.
Jia Jingchuan, a 27 year old production technician from Wintek hoped that Apple will respect their dignity and labor and will apologize.
Jay Huang, a spokesman for Wintek stated that those who required medical assistance due to n hexane have been treated and now alcohol is being used to clean the panels that are being manufactured for Apple.
A worker Guo Ruigiang at the plant revealed that in future they cannot bear the medical costs as he was also suffering from the symptoms and was feeling very low.
